April 14th Beverston

In spite of a few mishaps, a group of 18 Ramblers enjoyed a lovely walk in sunny if chilly weather. The walk started in the Chavenage Green area, heading towards Chavenage House, before turning right along a track by a wild bird trust property.

The track gave way to a path which was muddy, but it soon opened out into a field, with a climb to the top, from where glorious views towards Tetbury and the Marlborough Downs greeted us.

We then had a short stretch of road walking before reaching the tiny village of Beverston, with its attractive church and historic semi-ruined castle. We took a coffee break here to allow people to have a closer look at the castle and the church, and a group photo was taken on the village green.

We then proceeded across open fields and undulating countryside, again with extensive views, before reaching our lunch stop near Cranmore Farm, not far from Ledgemore Bottom.

We descended to Ledgemore Bottom, where we were treated to beautiful displays of bluebells in the woods above the valley floor, and we had another group photo. We proceeded through a stretch of boggy ground alongside a stream before starting a gradual climb through woods where the path was diverted due to wet conditions and fallen trees to our starting point.
