Revived by their hotel dinner and breakfast, the ten intrepid ‘long-walkers’ set off again with Maggi and Clarice from the North Devon group, from the car park at Baggy Point near Croyde.

Much of the walk seemed to coincide with the route of the North Devon AONB Marathon & Half Marathon, taking place the same morning. The Ramblers therefore tried not to get entangled with runners as they crossed the sands of Croyde Bay and then climbed up on the South West Coast Path to Saunton Down.

Crossing the downs towards Putsborough they made a stop for lunch next to the Second World War observation post and bombing range target indicator – a large arrow marked on the ground. The North Devon coast was a major training centre for American troops, especially in the run-up to D-Day and this is a particularly rare survival from that period.

The walk continued along the coast path, around Baggy Point and back to the car park – and the tea shop! Somewhat gentler than the previous day’s walk, this one totalled about 8 miles.
