August 2nd Chavenage

Back out again ….. The first official walk for Cirencester Ramblers since lockdown was a 6½ mile walk from Chavenage Green.

After a Health and Safety Covid briefing, 17 members started off on the walk on a fine, pleasantly warm day. Going through the woods down Longtree Bottom, the group reached open meadows and pasture land full of wild flowers, following along the valley to Ledgemoor Bottom before turning up a track to Cranmore Cottages.

After re-crossing the road we headed across the fields reaching Beverston Church in time for a lunch stop. Viewing Beverston Castle from the path we then circled round picking up the Macmillan Way heading towards Chavenage House, with views across the field to Tetbury and it’s impressive church spire.

After a short walk along the road back to the cars some of the group enjoyed coffee and cake (in 6 people groups) at the Wild Carrot open air café near Chavenage House.

A leisurely walk, with time to catch up with old friends and meet new ones through lovely countryside at its best.
