On Sunday July 7th, 25 Ramblers walked through Bourton on the Water, famous for its wide green and stone bridges spanning the River Windrush, following the Rissington road.
Taking a footpath on the right, they crossed over the River Windrush, with the river on the left, and followed the footpath through a wooded area.
Emerging into the sunshine and passing two lakes and footbridge over the River Dikler, they headed up a steep freshly mown hay field, on the way to the pretty village of Little Rissington, with it’s church that is home to World War 2 RAF servicemen, and modern stain glass window depicting aeronautic symbols.
After a coffee stop, leaving by the small gate on the far west corner of the churchyard providing lovely views over Bourton on the Water, they continued over the fields on part of the Donnington way to Wyck Rissington. Teenage Gustav Holst was the organist and choirmaster for a year in the village church.
Heading back to Bourton on the Water via the Diamond and Oxfordshire Way and Greystones Nature Reserve they enjoyed a picnic lunch on the way.
