May 12th Nailsworth

10 members did the circular walk of 5.5 miles from Nailsworth. Very warm sunny day that two ladies used umbrellas to keep their heads in the shade.

The walk took us up to the Bath Road and along a little way before we crossed the road to a path which led down through some trees and eventually to Ruskin Mill College with it's very old Water Wheel (which the Princess Royal is going to visit in June). Taking the left path by the Water Wheel we carried on past Midland Fisheries and some allotments on the other side. Keeping in the woods we came out by few houses and turned left up quite a few steps and up the lane to a right of way on our right to taking us all along and into Park Woods, where we stopped by the carved man for our coffee stop. We continued and eventually went left up lots more steps to come out at Nailsworth Community Workshops for Special Needs people. We continued onto the top of the hill to come out at Tipputs Inn, then crossed the A46 and followed a grass track through fields along to Ledgemore Bottom, where we found a large log to sit on and have our lunch. Next, we took a sharp left up a track through woods to the top which had views of open fields and up onto Shipton’s Grave Lane, turned right along the lane then first left over a stile and down the field boundary till we came out to a vast open view of the other side of the valley and the famous road of the W bends (which goes back onto Minchinhampton Common). We carried on down to the wood and soon turned left down a path into Nailsworth Housing Estate and back to our cars.
