Ten members left the car park on Fyfield Down, following the White Horse Trail down the hill to the village of Manton.  Here we we crossed the River Kennet.

Passing Manton Grange we followed the river behind Marlborough College,(former students include Sir John Betjeman and Princess Eugenie), where we discovered the smallest White Horse in Britain designed and cut by local students in 1804.

This brought us into the town of Marlborough where we stopped for a break on the river bank in Priory Gardens before crossing the very wide High Street and then climbing up to the common.

Following the edge of the common past the rugby field and golf course brought us to the gates of Manton House, a well known racehorse stud, and the path which led us back to the start.
