On Thursday 10th June 18 members and 3 guests set off from the Wheatsheaf Inn, Crudwell, on a 3½ - 4 mile walk. During the walk the leader explained the history of some of the places and names in the village. From the pub we took the footpath to Rommel Lane, which leads into Tetbury Lane.

On passing Ye Olde Forge, Bernie Tidmarsh, a master farrier, let us look around his forge while he fired up the furnace. Another short footpath brought us to Tuners Lane then on to the All Saints Church where we were able to look inside and stop for a brief refreshement.

From the church we took the footpath across the fields to Murcott. After walking through Murcott we took the path back to the A429 near Pear Tree Cottages. Returning to the pub we passed “The Forge” (now converted into a house) where Bernie worked until 2005.

At the pub we were able to enjoy an alfresco lunch.
