“A Budding Walk” on 4th August, so called after Edwin Budding, who invented the lawn mower, and Egypt Mill serves a beer named after him.

Thirteen ramblers set out on a beautiful summer’s day from Egypt Mill in Nailsworth, turning left onto the shady cycle path that runs parallel to the A46. As they approached North Woodchester they left the path and turned into a housing estate.

Continuing uphill to the church, they stopped for a coffee break, then continued past Woodchester House.

Passing some pretty cottages through South Woodchester, they forked right, diverting via a stile across a paddock, then past a field with lovely redwood trees in. One had been made into a tree house.

The route continued to Woodchester Valley village, crossing fields and up a very steep hill to Windsoredge. From there they had a splendid view of South Woodchester church, and stopped for lunch.

Following the road through the village to Nympsfield Road, they turned down a narrow path back to the A46. Crossing over they were back at Egypt Mill, most walkers stopped for a well deserved drink!
