On a sunny morning 24 members did a memorable five and a quarter mile walk in beautiful countryside, with extensive views.
Starting on a footpath in Station Road, the route crossed the A40 and into a field before going left through the gap in an old rail embankment. The level path continued to Syreford Mill, where we went right on a minor road for 250 metres and then left onto part of The Salt Way, a steady uphill track for 2 km with views of the Coln Valley to the left. We were no longer alone as the annual Bluebell Run passed us. (a convoy of tractors covering a 28 mile route to raise funds for Cancer Research)
A coffee break was taken at the top of the hill and the walk resumed by going across a field to Upper Brockhampton, and then down the road, passing cottages originally built for quarrymen, to Lower Brockhampton
By the bus shelter, the route went left down a very quiet county lane to Sevenhampton. Along this lane, at viewpoints, are 2 wooden seats provided by Cotswold Wardens. The walk continued in fields and a wood to return to Syreford Mill. The return was on a different path to the right of the Mill, before carefully re-crossing the A40 again.
