July 12th Chavenage and Beverston Circle

8 members and 1 very welcome member from another group set off for what was meant to be a 5.5 mile leisurely walk from Chavenage Green. In the event due to the heat we cut out a bit of the walk round Beverston.
Walking through a lovey avenue of trees along Chavenage Road we passed Chavenage House, learning a bit about the history and the filming they now do in the house. Crossing fields, we headed to the main Avening road before dropping down to the valley and welcome shade through the woods at Hermits Cave. Heading back into open fields we enjoyed watching the many butterflies in the grass along the path. At the top of a short incline we took a short break in the shade before heading into Beverston along the road through the village passing Beverston Castle where we talked about its history and relationship with Chavenage House during the Civil War. We then had a very welcome break by the church before heading back to the start across the fields and for many of us a well-earned drink at the Barn Café.
