Cirencester Ramblers

The first walk of 2024

A group of 13 walkers assembled at the Harford Bridge layby for the New Year’s day walk which, true to the forecast, was dry and cloudy after what seemed like days of wind and rain. The water level at the nearby ford was high but passable and the route along the Windrush valley was inevitably wet underfoot with the woodland stretch quite muddy.
Drier paths and bridleways took us through Aston Mill and then on to the Slaughters for a lunch stop at Upper Slaughter church. A fairly stiff climb followed with fine views towards the Rissingtons but once at the top the return route was via a quiet lane directly to Harford bridge.
