On Sunday 23th January 25 members and one Sheffield member left the Coln Rogers Church CP and set off in the direction that took them over the bridge of the River Coln and down the lane to Winson, turning left at the T junction, with its lovely Cotswold Stone houses, large ones and small cottages.
Down left again took us to a Stone Public Footpath sign, where we went left through the gate, and followed the path to a stile, and up the hill to the other side, which brought us to the top of the Ablington valley.
We walked along the top side of the valley for quite a while, then dropped down to the valley floor and continued along it. Then we ascended up, and when near the top, we stopped along on the left hillside for our coffee/lunch stop.
We then continued left up and through the gate to the road, and turning left we walked down the lane to Saltway Farm, turning left there along the track to some barns. We then turned right and it brought us out onto the crossroads at the top of Calcot, going straight over and down the ' No Through Road'.
This is a steep lane with lovely cottages on either side. At the bottom we took a left turn across a field, over a stile and onto a path which led us along side the River Coln and back to our cars .
Everyone said how much they enjoyed the walk and would I put it on again in the summer !!!.. Will do.
