Twenty members gathered in the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust car park at Ravensroost Wood which is a site of Special Scientific Interest, on a warm and sunny evening.

We walked through managed woodland which supplied some of the oak for the replica of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.

We then walked through wild flower meadows some of which had been mowed that morning, and continued to19 Acre Wood. The route then went along quiet country roads to the heavily wooded Somerford Common, before returning via a tree lined path to Ravensroost Wood.

The many pockets of woodland in the area are the remnants of the Royal Braydon hunting forest.
