Ten members set off from Ashbury folly along the Ridgeway before turning southward to visit Alfred's Castle, an iron age fortified farmstead and supposedly the site of a victory over the Danes by Alfred the Great.
We then continued to Ashdown House, a Dutch style house owned by the National Trust and leased by Pete Townsend of The Who, which was built by the Earl of Craven for his great friend Elizabeth the sister of King Charles.
After walking through woodland and down the long ride we left the estate and made our way back to the Ridgeway and the car park.
