Cirencester Ramblers

August 9th Prestbury

On a pleasant summer morning thirteen members did a four mile country and village walk, starting from the car park at Prestbury.

The walk started with the country section by crossing the Winchcombe Road and going along Mill Lane and then left on an uphill path to walk below Queens Wood.

A refreshment stop was taken to admire the view below of the Cheltenham Race Course and the Malvern Hills beyond. A downhill path returned us to the Winchcombe Road, which was crossed by Ellenborough House Hotel, with an immediate left into Southam. After about 200 yards, the route returned to footpaths, between the hotel and the far edge of the race course, to go across meadows and return to Prestbury for the second section of the walk.

The leader related the stories of spirits and ghosts associated with the route, which went along Shaw Green Lane, Mill Street and The Burbage. The walk concluded with lunch on the High Street at The Kings Arms.
