Cirencester Ramblers

December 17th Malmesbury

This walk was the first in the Ramblers Festival of Winter Walks.   There are two more in this Festival on Thursday 4th January and Sunday 7th January 2018.

Seven members left The Old Station Car Park in Malmesbury for a six mile circular walk to Corston. After climbing the Abbey Steps, we walked through the town and down to Daniel's Well. Then across fields behind Daniel's Well Farm, where a protective llama made sure we kept away from the rest of his family. We followed a track to Thornhill Farm and negotiated a series of difficult stiles behind Burnt Heath Farm, reaching Common Road in what was now persistent rain. A decision was made to cut the walk short and not take in the intended loop around Corston.

After a coffee stop, a green lane was followed north east reaching Home Farm and the A429. The rain had now eased to a drizzle and the group turned left through the woods, to reach the fields, with the excellent views back towards Malmesbury and the Abbey. We returned to Daniel's Well and retraced our steps back through the town, pleased to have been out despite the rain, mud and many stiles climbed.
