Cirencester Ramblers

20th July Ampney Crucis

A group of 12 Ramblers set off from the cricket ground in Ampney Crucis, for a four and a half mile circular walk on a pleasant evening. They headed up across fields towards the back of Ampney House where they found a friendly herd of Alpacas. Following the path on through a small wood they soon emerged onto School Lane. They walked up through the picturesque village and around Dudley Corner to find the lane to Ampney St Mary. From here they used the path by the Manor, and through horse paddocks, to the quaint sister village of Ampney St Peter - where they admired the gold painted Post box. The party crossed the A417 and walked down Charlham Lane to the old farm.  Here they turned right to join a track, which went over Ampney Brook, and took them to Driffield Church. A short stroll  down the lane led them to Harnhill Manor. Using the road they went back down to Ampney Crucis.  The group then enjoyed a well deserved drink sat by the river.
