The Bedford Hotel in Sidmouth hosted our away weekend this year. The general view seemed to be that this was one of the best hotels the group have stayed in. There were 49 of us in total with 14 arriving on Thursday 2 March and the remainder arriving on the Friday with 30 of the group staying on for Sunday night.
The hotel was ideally located on the Esplanade and a short walk from the delightful town centre. There were 2 organised walks on the Saturday (6 and 11 miles); and 3 walks on the Sunday (3¾, 6 and 7 miles). To goto the walk report for any of the five walks click on the blue distance number.
The local attractions some explored during their stay were the nearby Donkey Sanctuary and Bicton Botanical Gardens. While others made use of the local bus service to travel into Exeter so even those that did not go on the organised walks could find something to do each day.
All over Sidmouth there were glorious beds of daffodils in flower, the gift of a benefactor in 2013, when 178,000 spring bulbs were planted, with more being added each year, towards a target of one million bulbs.
It may be March but there were still those out surfboarding
