Cirencester Ramblers

2016 Village Visits

These are monthly "Village Visits" for retired members.  They usually meet middle of the week, middle of the month for a meal and social get together. Different folk organise them at a favourite pub or restaurant, often in a village where we have walked in the past. Where possible, travel is by bus from Cirencester – remember to bring your bus pass. They do not meet in December or January.

November 23rd Eleven retired Rambler's and friends met for their pre-Christmas Christmas lunch at the Lechlade Garden Centre.

October 19th Today's Village Visitors were fewer in number due to recovering from an operation and hosting family visitors. However though the 'magnificent seven' enjoyed a pleasant meal and two hours of social chitchat as usual.

September 22nd Eight retired Ramblers and friends at The Clock Tower in Charlton Kings,Cheltenham. A very pleasant meal. Here everyone is seriously thinking about the menu. The party became more lively as the food arrived.

July 14th  There were 10 of us today. Numbers down due to holidays no doubt. The usual lively conversation over lunch mostly about a highly technical new car and how to drive it. Toby the landlord was the perfect host.

June 16th Fourteen retired Ramblers and friends enjoyed our annual steam train day out on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway.

Leaving Cheltenham Racecourse Station on the first steam train of the day we travelled via Winchcombe and Gotherington to Toddington to arrive in time for lunch.

Later we travelled via Laverton Halt to Winchcombe Station using both steam and diesel trains, this being a 'Blue Timetable' day, for afternoon tea. After tea the party including our current chairman and two past chairmen, their ladies, old and new friends, including our two Norwegian visitors returned to Cheltenham. A grand day out!

May 18th 10 retired Ramblers and friends met at The White Hart in Cricklade to enjoy an excellent lunch together with a great deal of banter. We especially enjoyed the instructions from John Hartley as to how to cook the perfect omelette! We also put the world to rights, as usual.

Paying the Bill

April 21st, Cirencester Retired Ramblers and friends drew 15 diners to The Plough Inn at Stratton,Cirencester. A very noisy and enjoyable time was had by all. The meal was made all the more enjoyable by the landlord's 15% on all main meals for April

The next mid week get together will be an afternoon tea at The Old Cafe.

The Old Cafe is, perversely, a new cafe in Cricklade Street, Cirencester.

We will meet at 2:30ish pm for scones and jam etc at about 3:00 pm. We will then discuss the details of the June steam train outing.

As usual all members and their friends are welcome to join us
